An art gallery named Gran Café will soon open in Newark, New Jersey, with original works by Cuban artist Martha Jimenez, who recently visited the United States for the fourth time.

The exhibit will open late this month or in early July with ten pieces, including engravings and screen printings, and other formats and techniques, which mainly deal with feminine issues and a combination of reality and fantasy in a surrealistic atmosphere. Most pieces by Jimenez are marked by Cuban local and traditional elements.

During her latest visit to the U.S., the Cuban artist worked on preparations for the Newark exhibit and also offered a three-day training session at a Miami public school, where she taught a group of students in to paint medieval scenes, as part of their school curriculum.

Martha Jimenez has exhibited her works in the United States previously, in New York and Boston. She has also visited and her pieces have been on display at the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Chile, Canada, France and Turkey.

Jimenez received an awarded at the Havana International Crafts Fair by the UN Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO), and other decorations in artistic competitions in China and Turkey.

Martha Jimenez was initially known for her ceramic works, though she is more popular in the area of painting, engraving and other visual arts.
