Unemployment Continues to Rise in the UK

London, March 14 (RHC)-- Unemployment in Britain rose to 8.4%, with some 28,000 workers in the UK losing their jobs during the first two months of this year.  According to figures from the Office for National Statistics in London, there are now more than 2.6 million unemployed in the United Kingdom.

Latin American, Caribbean Migrants Remitted US$61 Bilion Home Last Year

Rio de Janeiro, March 14 (NNN-MERCOPRESS-RHC) -- Latin American and Caribbean migrants sent 61 billion U.S. dollars in remittances to their home countries last year -- up 6 percent from 57.6 billion in 2010, according to a report released earlier this week by the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) group.

Japan Earthquake Triggers Tsunami Warnings

Tokyo, March 14 (RHC)-- A strong earthquake in northern Japan has triggered tsunami advisories in a region heavily damaged by last year’s earthquake and tsunami.  Minor sea changes were reported following the 6.8-magnitude quake, and several towns issued evacuation orders, but all warnings were later lifted.  No damage or injuries were reported.

Judge Believes Spanish King’s Son-in-Law Involved in Corruption

Palma, March 14 (RHC)-- Spanish Judge Jose Castro says he doesn't believe the testimony of the Duke of Palma, Iñaki Urdangarin, the son-in-law of Spanish King Juan Carlos, who is charged with corruption.  Urdangarin answered questions posed by Judge Castro regarding his involvement in the so-called Palma Arena case.  The case includes the diversion of money from public entities to the Noos Institute, a non-profit organization that the Duke headed from 2004 to 2006.
