Central Bank Confirms Spain Entered a Recession

Madrid, March 27 (RHC) The March edition of the economic bulletin of the Bank of Spain, published in Madrid, confirms that the Spanish economy is in recession since the beginning of the year, as it registers a reduction of the Gross Domestic Product for the second consecutive trimester.

Syria Accepts Plan Sent by U.N. Special Envoy

Damascus, March 27 (RHC) -- The Syrian government accepted the six-point plan presented by the U.N. and Arab League Special Envoy, Kofi Annan, as a solution for the crisis in the country. The plan seeks the end of hostilities under U.N. supervision, the freeing of anti-government protesters who have been detained, and establishes the sending of humanitarian aid.

Leaders from U.S. and Russia Agree to Continue Dialogue about Anti-Missile Defense

Seoul, March 27 (RHC) U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Dimitri Miedviediev agreed to continue a dialogue among experts from each country about anti-missile defense over the next six months. They made the agreement at the Second Nuclear Security Summit, which concluded in Seoul on Tuesday with a consensus from world leaders to take strong actions against nuclear terrorism threats and further steps toward a safer world.

United Nations Honors Victims of Slavery

United Nations, March 27 (RHC) Representatives from all over the world observed the International Day in Memory of Victims of Slavery on Monday at the General Assembly of the United Nations. The tribute was lead by vice-secretary general of the U.N., Asha-Róus Mígairo, and President of the General Assembly, Nasír Abdulazíz Al-Nasér. He referred to new forms of slavery, such as debt, human trafficking, sexual exploitation, child labor, forced marriage, and the recruitment of children to armed conflicts. Asha-Róus Mígairo also warned about the persistence of discriminatory acts, as well as the use of new technologies to spread racist ideologies.
