Havana, April 25 (Prensa Latina-RHC) The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) considered Cuba one of the developing countries with better use of its industrial property system, which put its knowledge at the service of the society and other nations. The Deputy General Director of WIPO, Geoffrey Onyeama, praised the high professional level of the specialists from the Cuban Office of Industrial Property (OCPI) and confirmed his willingness to further enhance cooperation with this institution in areas of training and the creation of databases.
Onyeama, who is attending the International Seminar on Industrial Property, Information Technology and Technology Transfer, which is taking place in Havana through Thursday, explained that at present more than 80 percent of information technology available in the world comes from patent documents.
The official, quoted by Granma newspaper, emphasized the importance of developing strategies to encourage the transfer of such valuable knowledge to the less developed nations. Among its priorities, the Cuban Office of Industrial Property works to insert industrial property activity in the system of science, technology and innovation, investments and exports of goods and services as a necessity to the preservation of national interests. Havana, April 25 (RHC) Airline authorities from Cuba and Peru are meeting in Havana to sign cooperation agreements with the goal to increase the frequency of air transportation between the two countries. Cuba´s Foreign Ministry website said that the meeting was initiated due to the recent increase of tourism from countries in South and Central America and in the Caribbean. The Peruvian delegation is led by Ramón Gamarra Trujillo, the General Director of the Civil Aeronautics of the Transportation and Communications Ministry, who is accompanied by other officials from this and other organizations. Caracas, April 25 (RHC) Various photos of Venezuelan President, Hugo Chávez, taken of him with family members in Havana on Monday afternoon, were shown on Venezuelan television. The images were also distributed by the Minister of Communications and Information, Andrés Izarra, on his twitter account. President Chávez held a television conference with leaders from the Venezuelan United Socialist Party, in which he announced that he will be returning to his country on the 26th of this month, despite the fact that he is scheduled for another radiotherapy treatment in Cuba on the 28th. Havana, April 25 (RHC) The 8th International Congress of Agricultural Law is taking place in Havana with the participation of lawyers and professionals from other sectors from 13 countries. Approximately 180 experts will discuss the benefits of the cooperative model for its members and its socio-economic development within the states. A presentation about up-coming legislation on this topic in Cuba will be made. At the inauguration of the congress, the President of the Cuban Society of Agricultural Law, Roy Ramón, said that he considers the model of collective associations also propels values of autonomy and independence. Buenos Aires, April 25 (RHC) Katiuska Blanco´s book “Guerrillero del Tiempo,” or “Warrior of Time,” about Fidel Castro, was presented at the sight of the Central Committee of the Argentinean Communist Party in Buenos Aires. Journalist and author Katiuska Blanco responded to questions from the public about her book, which covers Fidel Castro´s life up until 1959. Blanco said that she collaborated with Alba Orta in the preparation of the second half, and they are working on the first steps of a sequel that would follow the Revolution Leader up through 1971, when he visited Chile.
The presentation of the book was attended by Cuban Ambassador to Argentina, Jorge Lamadrid, and President of the Cuban Journalists Union, Tubal Páez. The book was first launched in Argentina last Friday at “Cuba Day” at the 38th International Book Fair, and was also presented at the National University of Rosario, and will be presented tomorrow in the city of La Plata. Havana, April 25 (RHC) Employees recognized as “Cuban Work Heroes” and union leaders will hold events at work centers in celebration of their positive results in production, services, research, and teaching, from Wednesday to Friday. The Granma newspaper reports that among the work places celebrated in preparations for May Day, International Worker´s Day, are bio-technology company LABIOFAM, and the businesses Vanguardia Socialista, Enrique Varona, PRODAL, ECOA 66, and Sueros y Productos Hemoderivados, or IV´s and Blood-Derived Products. Other companies that will hold the events are oil and sugar cane research companies, the International Cuban Tobacco company, the teaching community health clinic in Vedado, Villena Revolución trade school, the Parque Central hotel, the Higher Institute of the Arts, and Radio Rebelde, among others.
The daily newspaper Juventud Rebelde reports that the youth who will march in the José Martí Revolution Plaza for International Worker´s Day will make their commitment to following through with the new political, economic, and social guidelines of the Communist Party and Revolution. The Young Communists League states that it is proud that the Cuban Workers Confederation has dedicated May Day´s events to the 50th anniversary of this youth organization, and said that it is a commitment for new generations to continue with the revolutionary process.
