Freedom for the Cuban Five Demanded from the Iguazu Falls
Young solidarity activists demanded freedom for five Cubans imprisoned in the United States on false espionage charges from the Devil’s Throat, a group of cascades making up the Iguazu Falls in Argentina.
Members of the Committee for the Freedom of the Five of the locality of Eldorado and students of Havana’s Latin American Medical School demanded the return home of Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
These counter-terrorism fighters were arrested in the United States on September 12, 1998, and condemned in Miami to harsh sentences for the only offense of trying to prevent crimes against the Caribbean island.
Between Cuban flags and posters demanding the immediate return of The Five to their homeland, the young activists offered details of the biased trial to which Gerardo, Rene, Ramon, Fernando and Tony were subjected, adds the source.
On board of the train carrying tourists to the Devil’s Throat, they also distributed brochures explaining the injustice committed against these selfless antiterrorists. /ACN
