Cuba marks 138th Anniversary of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes's Death

Havana, February 27 (RHC) -- Cuba marks on Monday, the 138th anniversary of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes’ death, an independence leader also known as the Father of the Nation.

Cuba’s daily newspaper “Granma” published on Monday a commemorative column honoring the Cuban independence fighter, who died in February 27, 1874.

Céspedes was a Cuban plantation owner who freed his slaves and made the first declaration of Cuban independence in 1868 which started the Ten Years' War against colonial Spain.
