President Raul Castro Attended Pope´s Mass in Havana Square
Havana, March 28 (RHC) Cuban president Raul Castro attended the public Mass held by Benedict XVI at Havana’s Revolution Square on Wednesday morning in the final day of the Pope’s visit to the Caribbean nation. Thousands of residents of the Cuban capital and other neighbouring provinces were in the Revolution Square for the Mass, which was also attended by leaders of the Cuban Government and Communist Party (PCC).
The Pope, dressed in purple, which means penance in the Church, blessed all the people present there and then pronounced the homily, during which he said how happy he was for being in Cuba and recognized the steps given in the island for the public exercise of the faith.
He called for the search of reconciliation and fraternity to get to the truth; and he reminded the people of the legitimacy of the Christian faith in the construction and harmonic development of the society. The Pope is scheduled to leave Cuba Wednesday afternoon
