Vietnam Communist Party’s Sec-Gen granted José Martí Order in Havana
Havana, April 10, (RHC), -- Nguyen Phu Trong, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam was decorated with the José Martí Order, the highest distinction granted the Cuban Council of State.
At a ceremony held Monday in the Palace of the Revolution in Havana, the Cuban President Raul Castro granted the decoration to the Vietnamese leader, whose efforts in the construction of socialism and strengthening of relations between both nations were highlighted by Homero Acosta, State Council Secretary.
For his part, Nguyen said he felt honored to receive such distinction, adding that he accepted it on behalf of the heroic people of Vietnam, which has bravely fought for freedom, independence and national reunification and continues to fight for the construction of a strong and prosperous nation.
He also stressed the long-lasting friendship between the peoples, parties and governments of Vietnam and Cuba, saying he will continue working to honor those bonds.
Earlier on Monday, Nguyen held official talks with the also First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, Raul Castro at the headquarters of the State Council.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed issues of bilateral and international relevance, as well as the challenges facing the socialist system in our time.
Both events were attended by members of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party as well as ministers and other government officials.
