Cuba Rejects Declarations Made by Spanish Foreign Minister

Havana, May 8 (RHC) Cuban Vice-minister of Foreign Relations, Dagoberto Rodríguez, classified the recent comments by Spanish Foreign Minister, José Manuel García-Margallo, as interfering, disrespectful, and naïve. Rodríguez referred to the statements recently published in the Spanish Daily newspaper, ABC, in which García-Margallo mentioned the possibility of meeting with mercenary groups paid by a foreign government during an eventual trip to Cuba.

The Vice-Minster stated that García-Margallo should remember that Cuba is no longer a colony of Spain, and he should invest his energy in the economic crisis and growing discontent of his own country, where almost 40 percent of youth is unemployed, instead of interfering with Cuba. Rodríguez added that it would be of interest to public opinion to know if García-Margallo has received any verbal or written invitation to visit Cuba, or if he believes he does not need such an invitation.
