Cuban VP Lazo meets with Prime Minister of Mozambque
Maputo, May 23, (RHC), -- Cuban Vice President,Esteban Lazo Hernandez, has met with the Prime Minister of Mozambique, Aires Bonifacio Ali at Maputo´s government palace, local media reported.
At the meeting, the government leaders reviewed the state of bilateral relations and cooperation and discussed other issues of interest to both countries.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the meeting, Esteban Lazo Hernandez said his visit is linked to the historic relationship between the two countries which was cemented by the late Mozambican President Samora Machel and former Cuban President Fidel Castro.
'Our visit aims to review this relationship, but also to study, consider and define other areas in which we can establish mutual collaboration', said the Cuban Vice-President, stressing that 'we must multiply this cooperation'.
During his four-day visit, Lazo is due to meet Mozambican President Armando Guebuza and the Chairperson of the country's parliament, the Assembly of the Republic, Veronica Macamo.
Previously, Lazo held an animated meeting with a broad representation of Cuban collaborators working in the African country and laid a wreath at the monument to martyrs of the Mozambican liberation war.
He also toured Maputo’s Central Hospital, where some 36 Cuban doctors are practicing as part of ongoing cooperation in the field of healthcare.
Cooperation ties between both countries date back many years, mainly in the areas of education and health. Cuba is also helping Mozambique with the training of teachers, doctors and medical staff. /AllAfrica.com
