UN Official Affirms Cuba is the Safest Country in Latin America

Havana, May 24 (RHC) – The Director of the Latin American Institute for Crime Prevention, of the United Nations, Elías Carranza, spoke at the opening of the VI International Meeting on Justice and Law, being held in Havana’s International Conference Center, and highlighted Cuba’s achievements in crime reduction, declaring it to be the safest country in the region.

altCarranza noted that Cuba is unique in the continent as it does not present a serious situation of violence and crime. He also suggested that if there was no U.S. Blockade against the island, many countries would benefit from exchanging experiences with Cuban professionals in the area of Justice.   

The UN high official also congratulated Cuba’s advances in sports, culture, health and having eradicated social exclusion.

Debates on issues that pertain to law and justice around the world will take place until Friday, May 25th during this event that includes more than 500 delegates from 14 nations.
