Cuba and India Reaffirm Commitment to Deepen Bilateral Links
Havana, June 15 (RHC) Cuba and India ratified their commitment to keep deepening bilateral relations, during a meeting in Havana between India´s visiting foreign minister S.M. Krishna and his Cuban host Bruno Rodriguez.
During the talks at the island’s Foreign Ministry, the Cuban government official said that relations with India constitute a priority for Cuba, since India is a great non-aligned country, with a large diplomatic tradition and a significant role in the international arena.
According to Rodriguez, India maintains an important position as to human survival, in issues such as climate change, and the so-called necessity of reforming the United Nations system.
Meanwhile, Krishna, who arrived in Cuba on Thursday for a three day official visit, stressed the historic significance of the Cuban Revolution, and the respect of his people for the Cuban process and leader Fidel Castro.
He said that both countries have shared very beneficial cooperation relations in sports in particular, since India´s boxers have made big progress thanks to Cuban trainers, and he expressed his condolences for the recent death of Cuban World and Olympic Champ Teofilo Stevenson.
Previously, the distinguished visitor led a wreath at the monument of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at the Square of the Revolution.
During his stay in Cuba, S.M. Krishna will meet with the president of the Cuban Parliament Ricardo Alarcon and with other Cuban officials.
