Cuba Looks Forward to Increasing Exports
Havana, June 30 (RHC) Cuba is currently taking solid steps to increase exports, based on the diversification of products and the study of market trends.
The Export director at the Cuban Foreign Trade and Investment Ministry, Vivian Herrera said that traditional commodities, such as sugar, cigars, rum and nickel are now joined by new ones like pharmaceuticals and biotechnological products.
By the end of 2011, biotechnological and pharmaceutical products occupied the third place on the list of Cuban exports, said Herrera, who noted that Cuban commodities count on high quality, which favors their competitiveness at the foreign market
Last April, first deputy Foreign Trade and Investment minister Antonio Carricarte stressed the need to consolidate major income-earning exports and add others from the biotechnological and genetic engineering sectors.
The government official said that the increase in sales abroad is directly linked to Cuba’s mid-term development programs and he added that the island’s major partners are Venezuela, China, Canada, Spain and Russia.
