Cuba Offers Assistance in Bio-security at the United Nations

Havana, July 17 (RHC) Cuba offered its assistance and cooperation in terms of biological security to the signatory countries of the UN Biological Weapons Convention.

Addressing experts at the UN venue in Geneva, Cuban representative Juan Antonio Quintanilla said that his country hosts annual courses and workshops on different issues related to bio-security, PL news agency reported on Tuesday.alt

Havana will consider the requests by those states interested in having Cuban advisors in bio-security and control of biological agents to assist local personnel, said the Cuban diplomat and noted that several countries have already benefited from the island’s assistance.

The Cuban representative said that Cuba is currently organizing a forum that could be of regional character, on the implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention, which got in force in 1975 and has been ratified by 163 states. The Convention bans the development, production and stockpiling of biological weapons.
