Ivanchuk Strokes the Capablanca in Memoriam Crown

The Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk signed tables on Sunday with Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi and reached 7 points of 9 possible, and is about to get his 6th of these traditional Capablanca in Memoriam Chess Tournament crowns, based in Havana.

Sunday ended without a victory in the Elite Group where Cuban Leinier Dominguez drew with his fellow Yuniesky Quesada (3.5) using black pieces to stay on the 3rd spot with 4.5 points, while Nepomniachtchi is 2nd with 5.5.

The other Sunday tie was between Russia's Vladimir Potkin (4) and Czech Viktor Laznicka (3.5), while in the Open I group the Cuban Hermes Espinosa (7) successfully defeated his compatriot Mariano Ortega and ascended to the top of the section.
