Cuba Beat Japan and Classified for Semifinals in Harlem

Cuba gave Japan a knockout by 12-1 and advanced to the discussion of the medals at the XXVI Harlem Baseball Tournament, which is taking place in that Dutch city until next Sunday.

altOnce again, Cepeda, supported this time by Castillo, Despaigne, Reyes, Arruebarruena and Yulieski Gourriell were most prominent in the Cuban offensive that connected 15 hits and committed no errors.

The Cuban left-hander opener Darien Núñez played for 4 innings allowing the second baseman Yoshiki Eto’s homer in the 4th and was replaced by lefty Norberto Gonzales who took the victory while right-hander Motoki Higa was the loser.

Cuba now has 2 wins and 2 losses and went on to continue to play in the Semifinals next Saturday.

Cubans will close the preliminary stage tomorrow morning against the Netherlands(2-1), a game of pure formality since Europeans are already classified as are Puerto Rico(4-0) and the United States(3-1).
