Unemployment Continues to Rise in the UK
London, March 14 (RHC)-- Unemployment in Britain rose to 8.4%, with some 28,000 workers in the UK losing their jobs during the first two months of this year. According to figures from the Office for National Statistics in London, there are now more than 2.6 million unemployed in the United Kingdom.
The latest figures show that unemployment among women accounted for most of the increase during January and February.
The British government claimed the data showed the situation was "stabilizing," but opposition Labour ministers said the government was twisting the figures to try to show an improvement in employment.
The Labour Party said government schemes for creating jobs were failing. Work and Pensions Secretary for Labour, Liam Byrne, said that "Britain's jobs crisis shows no signs of letting up, yet complacent ministers are failing to act."
