Romney Wins Puerto Rico Republican Primary
Washington, March 19 (Xinhua-RHC) Republican front-runner Mitt Romney scored another win on Sunday in the primary held in Puerto Rico as the Republican presidential race continues, U.S. media reported.
Romney won 82 percent of the vote, far ahead of his two close challengers Rick Santorum, who won 9 percent, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who won only 3 percent, with 11 percent of precincts reporting. Romney is set to win all 20 delegates from the island territory for the 2012 Republican National Convention, due to be held in Tampa, Florida in August, to nominate the Republican contender to challenge Democratic incumbent president Barack Obama. To win the Republican nomination, any of the candidates has to win a total of 1,144 delegates before the convention opens. On Tuesday, the Republicans will hold their next primary in the state of Illinois, where Romney and Santorum are locked in a tight race.
