FAO Holds 32nd Regional Conference at Ministerial Level
Buenos Aires, March 28 (Prensa Latina-RHC) -- The 32nd Regional Conference of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) began Wednesday in Buenos Aires at a ministerial level. Statements by the director general, the independent president of the FAO Council and the 31st president of the forum opened the ministerial meeting, which will run until March 30th.
The results of the 37th session of the Committee on Food Security (CFS), held in October, 2011, in Rome, to discuss the reform already implemented in this body, will be presented during Wednesday’s session.
The measures proposed by the Committee to the FAO Council at the time include the drafting of a world strategic framework for food and nutritional security and the creation of a group on basic indicators in this field.
The Council also urged the FAO to improve its method to measure sub-nutrition and to pay special attention to improving the timeliness and reliability of data used for this purpose.
The FAO Council also approved a proposal to organize a high-level forum of experts on food security in the countries affected by a prolonged crisis.
The 32nd FAO Regional Conference began on Monday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with meetings of top officials.
