Spanish Unions Indicate Massive Support of General Strike
Madrid, March 29 (RHC) Representatives from the main unions in Spain, the Worker´s Commissions and The General Workers Union, said there was a massive participation of workers in the general strike held on Thursday in protest against the work reform approved by the government of Mariano Rajoy.
In a press release published in Madrid, the organizations emphasize that the strike is supported by workers in garbage collection, mail, hospital, and public transit sectors. The peaceful protest, which interfered with air and sea transportation, the automobile industry, and construction materials, also provoked the interruption of transmission of various television channels, such as Telemadrid and Canal Sur.
The main unions of Spain denounce that the work reform´s main effect would be cheap and easy lay-offs and grants unprecedented authority to the employer regarding contracting and setting salaries.
