May Day Activities Suspended in Nicaragua Due to Death of Tomás Borge
Managua, May 1 (RHC)-- The Nicaraguan people are paying homage to Sandinista Comandante Tomás Borge at the Palacio de la Revolución in Managua. Borge, who was the only living founder of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, the FSLN, died last night in Managua at the age of 81.
Rosario Murillo, the coordinator of Council of Communications and Citizenship, reported that President Daniel Ortega has decreed three days of national mourning to honor the outstanding fighter and founder of the FSLN. The three days of mourning will last until Thursday, May 3rd, during which time flags will be flown at half-mast.
The National Workers Front of Nicaragua decided to suspend the march to commemorate International Workers Day in Managua on Tuesday due to the death of Comandante Tomas Borge.
Members of the Sandinista Youth, trade unionists and the Sandinista leadership councils across the country are travelling to the Palacio de la Revolución to pay their final tribute to Comandante Borge. According to local media, the remains of Tomás Borge will rest beside those of another founder of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, Comandante Carlos Fonseca, at a mausoleum near Lake Managua.
