Afghanistan: NATO soldier killed in Taliban attack
Kabul, May 11, (RHC), -- A NATO soldier has been killed in Afghanistan, after a man wearing an Afghan army uniform opened fire on coalition forces in the eastern Kunar province.
"An individual wearing an Afghan National Army uniform turned his weapon against coalition service members in eastern Afghanistan today, killing one service member," read a statement issued by NATO.
It did not provided the nationality of the soldier or the exact location of the attack, however one Afghan military official said the incident took place in the province of Kunar.
The Taliban islamist militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack, carried out as part of its annual spring offensive.
Friday’s death came one day after three U.S.soldiers were wounded in a rocket attack in the eastern province of Logar.
The growing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the United States and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war. /PRESSTV
