Washington to Announce New Funds for Israeli Military Project
Washington, May 14 (RHC)—Washington will announce the granting to Israel of a special military aid package during a visit to be paid over the next few to the United states by Israeli Defense minister Ehud Barak, international media reported on Monday.
The aid package, consisting of some 680 million dollars, is aimed at supporting an Israeli anti-missile defense program known as Iron Dome. The funds will be added another 205 million dollars already approved by Barack Obama to further enhance the Israeli strategic project.
The announcement is expected to take place Thursday in Washington during the visit by the Israeli official and amidst increasing discontent among US citizens affected by the current economic crisis. Significant public budget cuts affecting workers´ rights have taken place in the U.S., particularly in the sector of healthcare.
The US-funded Iron Dome project is an advanced anti-missile program, whose effectiveness has been proven during recent attacks against the Palestinian people.
